There is much competition amongst a number of very good Indian restaurants in Hertford. Everybody has their own favourite but this is ours. We try the others from time to time and they're good but we always return to the Shahenshah. We think the quality of the food, the friendly service and the decor make this the No 1

"One of the better Indian cuisines in the South!"

I've eaten here many times over the last 10 years when I've been in the Ware/Hertford area. The range of Indian foods, and quality, have rarely fallen below a very good standard. The restaurant, which is centrally located in the old high street, is tastefully decorated and pretty modern. Staff are efficient and service level good even when busy. The tikka starter and main courses are particularly good, the Peshwari nan's delicious, and other traditional fare such as bhuna and Dopiaza courses very tasty. Seafood - fish & prawns - recommended. This in my experience of Indian cuisine is one of the better type restaurants in the South of England!

"Authentic Indian Food with a Chic Interior."

We stayed a few miles outside of Hertford and wanted a good Indian restaurant for a relaxed dinner and came across the Shahenshah. The menu is extensive with a good selection of chefs specials. The service is fast, efficient and friendly. The poppadoms are served with 5 chutneys and pickles and are quite large (we ordered two each, but one would have been enough). We didn't have starters but went straight to the curries. My partner had a delicious chicken Tikka Masala which consisted of about eight large chunks of chicken breast, cooked perfectly in a rich and aromatic Masala sauce. I chose the Green Chicken Murg curry which was fantastic, a total explosion of flavour and spices. The chicken again was cooked perfectly. We had a couple of side-dishes too which were equally as delicious. The restaurant was quite quiet when we arrived however by the time we left it was fairly busy so I would recommend booking a table. Price wise, it was comparable to my local Indian and well worth the final bill (about £16 per head for a curry, side dish, rice & naan).

"EXCELLENT, GREAT SERVICE, BEST INDIAN FOOD IN HERTS."

I've been a regular to Shahenshah at this particular restaurant for very many years now and its one of my favourites in the country. Hertford has many other Indian Restaurants so competition is very competitive, and there are many modern contemporary themed restaurants that look very fancy from the outside. Don't get me wrong the Shahenshah is very clean and modern but doesn't require the fancy tut image of other local restaurants, i think its pretty well know in the area for having a superb reputation for Great quality food and good customer service (where i find some of the other alternatives can lack).

"exactly what Indian food should taste like. its simply the best."

Though a little pricey, the food, surroundings and service here is just amazing. it is in Hertford after all so that's what we must expect from this town. the waiters are so friendly especially a young lad named Liton. you must try the Shahenshah to believe it as it is just great.

"best Indian restaurant ever."

I must say this Indian restaurant was one in a million, the food was just an amazing experience which was unforgettable. since i tried it once i keep going back with the family and mates. the decor is very modern and is suitable for all. the staff there are most friendly and the service is just great. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!! YOU MUST TRY IT.
